Senior Australian Bookkeeper - Xero

This is a senior, hands-on role focused on Xero-based bookkeeping, month-end delivery, client support, and mentoring junior team members.

You will work closely with tax and advisory teams, have direct client exposure, and play an important role in improving systems, workflows, and service delivery. This role suits someone who enjoys autonomy, takes pride in clean and accurate files, and thrives in a collaborative remote environment.

  • 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Melbourne , AU Time (AEST)

Responsibilities 

Bookkeeping & Client Delivery

  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping using Xero across multiple Australian clients
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, clearing, and ATO accounts (GST, PAYGW, etc.)
  • Process payroll, STP, superannuation, and employee entitlements
  • Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS
  • Maintain accurate ledgers and clean financial records
  • Produce monthly reports including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and remittance matching
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close

Client Support & Collaboration

  • Respond to and resolve client queries confidently and professionally
  • Work closely with tax and advisory teams to support compliance and reporting outcomes

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Review junior team members’ work and provide coaching and feedback
  • Manage workflows to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Identify and suggest process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Set up and manage cloud integrations such as Shopify, A2X, Cin7, Dext, Deputy, Square, and Employment Hero
  • Stay current with Australian compliance requirements and bookkeeping best practices

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ Australian bookkeeping experience (4+ years with at least 2 years in a senior role is a strong advantage)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or a related field
  • Xero Certified and Xero Payroll Certified
  • Hands-on experience with Xero, XPM, Hubdoc or Dext
  • Strong experience handling BAS, IAS, superannuation, and STP
  • Proven experience working with eCommerce and hospitality clients (must-have)
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • High attention to detail, accountability, and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple clients with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and managing workflows

Highly Regarded (Bonus):

  • Experience with Shopify, A2X, Cin7, Dear
  • Experience with Deputy or Tanda
  • Broader experience with cloud accounting and automation tools
