SolidWorks Designer – Mechanical & Sheet Metal Fabrication

Overview:
Chicago Metalcraft Inc. is seeking a SolidWorks Designer to join the team in developing equipment for the Food Production Industry. The ideal candidate will design, model, and prepare shop drawings for weldments and sheet metal fabrication items such as packing machinery, conveyors, mezzanines, and sinks. This role also involves researching and developing new ideas and prototypes, creating plans and models, and collaborating with internal and external teams to optimize design efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare diagrams and drafts for mechanical devices and machines

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerance requirements

  • Review and modify designs to increase production efficiency

  • Provide timely updates for drawing completion and workload

  • Coordinate with colleagues on complex diagrams

  • Draw and create blueprints and schematics as needed

  • Collaborate with engineers, managers, and creative teams

  • Estimate and establish cost parameters and budgets for designs

  • Prepare documentation, such as schematics and manuals

  • Create bill of materials, order requisitions, and drawing release sets

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Previous experience in mechanical drafting, manufacturing, or related fields

  • Familiarity with machine designs, diagrams, weldments, and sheet metal design

  • Proficient in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office Suite; Bluebeam Revu experience a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in design engineering, mechanical engineering, product design, industrial design, or related field

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role

  • Strong aptitude for creating detailed blueprints and instructions

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

  • Accurate and precise attention to detail

  • Creative and innovative thinker and planner

Since this is a permanent work-from-home or independent contractor position, the selected candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. Professional fees are on hourly or contract-based rates, depending on the agreement.
