Our client is seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) professional or company with direct expertise in Psychiatry and/or Mental Health billing to support a growing telehealth psychiatry practice. This role requires hands-on knowledge of the unique billing, coding, and payer requirements specific to psychiatric and behavioral health services. Experience working with insurance-based practices is essential.
You’ll be responsible for managing the full revenue cycle—from credentialing through collections—ensuring accurate reimbursement, minimal denials, and clear financial visibility for leadership.
Responsibilities
Credentialing & Payer Enrollment
- Provider credentialing with commercial payers, Medicare, and Medicaid
- Ongoing maintenance of enrollments and recredentialing
- Navigate state-specific payer requirements for psychiatric services
Psychiatry & Mental Health Billing
- Accurate billing for psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy services
- Proper use of ICD-10 mental health diagnoses
- Expertise in time-based and complexity-based psychiatric coding
- Knowledge of telehealth billing regulations specific to mental health services
Claims Management
- Clean claim submission with low first-pass denial rates
- Active follow-up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims
- Manage appeals with appropriate documentation
- Identify and resolve common psychiatry-related claim denials efficiently
Payment Posting & Reconciliation
- Accurate posting of EOBs and ERAs
- Identification and resolution of underpayments
- Monthly reconciliation of billed versus collected revenue
Patient Billing & Insurance Support
- Generate patient statements and manage balance follow-ups
- Insurance verification and benefits interpretation for mental health services
- Support prior authorizations when required by payer policies
Reporting & Transparency
Provide regular reporting on:
- Charges submitted
- Payments received
- Denials and appeal outcomes
- Aging accounts receivable
- Net collection rate
Communicate clearly around trends, risks, and opportunities for revenue optimization.
Requirements
- Direct experience billing Psychiatry or Mental Health services (required)
- Strong understanding of behavioral health payer rules and reimbursement models
- Experience with insurance-based practices (not cash-only models)
- Comfortable supporting telehealth psychiatry operations
- Familiarity with EHR/PM systems used in outpatient psychiatry (specific systems can be discussed)
