Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Accountant (CPA) to lead advanced accounting, payroll compliance, and tax work across our client base. This role is designed for a technically strong accountant who brings deeper expertise than the founder and is comfortable owning complex files end-to-end—from bookkeeping and payroll reporting to year-end and tax filings.
This is a high-trust, high-impact role within a growing, cloud-based firm.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Oversee and complete full-cycle bookkeeping for select clients
- Review bookkeeping prepared by internal team members
- Prepare adjusting entries, reconciliations, and year-end working papers
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA requirements
Payroll & Government Reporting
- Prepare and file ROEs
- Support payroll-related filings (PD7As, T4s, T4As, RLs where applicable)
- Assist with payroll compliance questions and CRA correspondence
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and/or review Canadian T1 and T2 tax returns
- Support year-end tax planning and compliance strategies
- Communicate with CRA on client matters
- Stay current on tax legislation and regulatory updates
Year-End & Advisory
- Lead corporate year-end close processes
- Support financial statement preparation and review
- Identify risks, errors, and optimization opportunities
- Provide technical guidance to the founder and internal team
Systems & Process Improvement
- Work within cloud-based tools (QuickBooks Online, Google Workspace, Notion)
- Contribute to improving internal workflows and documentation
- Support scalable accounting and tax processes as the firm grows
Qualifications & Credentials
Required
- CPA designation in home country
- Strong interest and commitment to obtaining Canadian CPA designation (if not already held)
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience with T1 and Self-Employed tax filings
- Experience with ROEs and payroll-related compliance● Ability to independently manage complex accounting and tax files
- Strong professional judgment and attention to detail
Assets
- Canadian tax experience
- Experience reviewing or mentoring junior accountants/bookkeepers
- Experience in a firm or multi-client environment
