Job Overview
We are hiring a junior-level Accountant with hands-on experience in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and independent tax filing for both Canadian and U.S. entities. This is an execution-heavy role within an AI-native accounting firm and family office serving cross-border clients.
You will work directly with the firm owner while operating independently across client accounts and internal entities. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, highly autonomous, and confident in handling tax compliance without supervision.
This is a part-time contract position with strong potential to transition into full-time based on performance and workload.
Client Overview
We are an AI-native accounting firm and family office serving Canadian and U.S. clients. The firm operates lean, automates aggressively, and maintains high execution standards. Foundational training is not provided — this role requires someone who can contribute immediately and operate independently, particularly in tax compliance.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST (mandatory availability during these hours), Part-time initially (hours to be determined)

Responsibilities
Bookkeeping and Accounting Operations
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple Canadian and U.S. entities
- Maintain accurate general ledgers using cloud accounting systems
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Keep books clean, consistent, and audit-ready
- Proactively identify errors, gaps, and inconsistencies
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Support month-end and year-end close
- Assist with internal and portfolio-level reporting
Accounts Payable and Payroll Support
- Manage accounts payable workflows and vendor records
- Assist with payroll processing for Canadian and U.S. entities
- Support payroll reconciliations and compliance requirements
Tax Filing and Compliance (Non-Negotiable)
- Independently prepare and file tax returns without supervision
- Canadian individual and corporate tax filings (T1, T2)
- U.S. individual and corporate tax filings (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065 as applicable)
- Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and workpapers
- Manage deadlines, accuracy, and compliance end-to-end
Requirements
Mandatory:
- 1 to 4 years of hands-on accounting experience
- Proven experience preparing and filing Canadian and U.S. tax returns
- Experience working with both Canadian and U.S. companies
- Strong command of bookkeeping fundamentals and financial statements
- Proficiency with cloud accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred)
- Ability to work part-time while being available 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST
- High autonomy, reliability, and accountability
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience in an accounting firm or outsourced services environment
- Exposure to cross-border clients or family office structures
- Payroll experience in both Canada and the U.S.
- Comfort using automation and AI-driven accounting workflows

Compensation
