Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong modeling and drafting experience to support Australian mining and mineral processing projects. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to develop 3D designs, perform materials handling and hydraulic calculations, and produce detailed technical drawings. This role offers a practical mix of mechanical, piping, and structural design focused on core mineral processing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Work under the Design Manager and alongside an experienced design team
• Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk 3D software (preferred) and/or OpenBuildings
• Undertake materials handling design calculations using spreadsheets and software (e.g., Sidewinder or similar for conveyors)
• Undertake hydraulic design calculations using spreadsheets and software (e.g., FluidFlow3 or similar)
• Design layout, 3D modelling, and solution development in collaboration with engineers
• Produce conceptual and detailed design models and drawing packages
• Apply Australian Standards to all design work
• Work across a mix of mechanical, piping, and structural design within mining projects

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of design experience (modelling and drafting) developing 3D designs alongside engineers
• Proficient with 3D and 2D design software – Autodesk 3D preferred (and/or OpenBuildings)
• Experience applying Australian Standards
• Preferably 2+ years experience with mining / mineral processing projects (tanks, pumps, pipes, mills, wet processing equipment)
• Ability to perform materials handling calculations (spreadsheet + software like Sidewinder or similar)
• Ability to perform hydraulic calculations (spreadsheet + software like FluidFlow3 or similar)
