Job Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Purchasing & Procurement Coordinator to manage their construction material supply chain. This role is the heartbeat of the material lifecycle—you will be responsible for everything from initial quoting and vendor negotiations to tracking deliveries and verifying receipt at active project sites. Your mission is to ensure that field teams never stall due to missing supplies, keeping every project on schedule and within budget through meticulous coordination and industry-specific expertise.

Monday - Friday, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM PST, San Diego, CA (20 hours per week)
Note: with the potential to increase to 40 hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Vendor Management: Proactively maintain and grow relationships with existing supply houses; identify and vet new vendors to secure competitive pricing and reliable service.
- Material Procurement: Review project requirements and place accurate orders for a wide range of construction materials (e.g., lumber, hardware, electrical, and plumbing components).
- Logistics & Tracking: Monitor delivery schedules and communicate with freight carriers; provide real-time status updates to project managers regarding material arrivals.
- Inventory & Cost Control: Maintain a "Master Procurement Log" in Google Sheets to track purchase orders, backorders, and project-specific material costs.
- Logistical Scheduling: Utilize Google Calendar to log delivery windows and coordinate site access for "material drops" with site superintendents.
- Cross-Departmental Communication: Manage high-volume email correspondence via Gmail, acting as the primary bridge between vendors, site teams, and the accounting department.
Requirements
- Construction Industry Expertise: Proven experience in purchasing or procurement specifically within the construction sector. Deep knowledge of construction materials and vendor networks is highly preferred.
- Advanced Google Workspace Skills:
- Google Sheets: For complex data tracking and material logs.
- Gmail: For professional, high-volume vendor communication.
- Google Calendar: For precise logistical scheduling.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong ability to negotiate pricing, terms, and expedited delivery schedules.
- Organizational Mastery: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple overlapping orders without error.
- Proactive Mindset: Ability to anticipate supply chain bottlenecks and resolve them before they impact the project site.
