Job Description
As a Bookkeeper & Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for managing payroll processing, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with ATO and state requirements. You will handle end-to-end bookkeeping tasks, including reconciliations, reporting, and statutory lodgements.
This role requires strong experience in Australian payroll and bookkeeping systems, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Schedule: Part-time (20 hours per week, flexible)
Responsibilities
Payroll Management
- Process fortnightly payroll for approximately 22 staff
- Manage employee onboarding, adjustments, and terminations
- Generate and distribute payslips
- Ensure compliance with Superannuation (including Payday Super requirements)
- Complete annual payroll compliance and Single Touch Payroll (STP) finalisation
Bookkeeping & Reconciliation
- Reconcile business bank accounts using bank feeds
- Perform reconciliation of approximately 200 transactions per month
- Publish receipts and invoices from Hubdoc to Xero
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
Accounts Payable & Payments
- Prepare monthly accounts payable batch reports
- Develop ABA files for upload into banking portals
- Coordinate payment processing and distribute remittance advice
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and lodge monthly PAYG Withholding (PAYGW) statements with the ATO
- Prepare and lodge quarterly Business Activity Statements (BAS)
- Prepare and lodge monthly Payroll Tax Returns with the State Revenue Office
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Australian financial regulations
Financial Support
- Assist with monthly management reporting
- Support financial review processes and meetings
- Maintain organized documentation for audit and reporting purposes
Requirements
- Proven experience in Australian bookkeeping and payroll
- Strong proficiency in Xero and Hubdoc
- Experience managing payroll compliance, including STP and superannuation
- Knowledge of ATO requirements (PAYGW, BAS, Payroll Tax)
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong organizational and communication skills
