QuickBooks Insurance Accountant – US GAAP

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to support complex accounting operations within a commercial insurance environment. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong expertise in insurance brokerage accounting, surplus lines reconciliation, audit preparation, and US GAAP compliance.

The accountant will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, auditing bookkeeping work, managing carrier payments, preparing financial reports, supporting tax compliance, and ensuring all accounting records are balanced precisely across multiple systems. The position requires a high level of independence, analytical thinking, discretion, and accuracy when handling sensitive financial and carrier-related data.

This is a long-term remote opportunity offering flexible working hours and a stable professional environment.

Schedule

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations for commercial insurance transactions.
  • Conduct detailed audits of wholesaler statements against internal accounting records.
  • Review and audit the work completed by the bookkeeper to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Handle complex accounting for commercial surplus lines, including tax allocations and reconciliations.
  • Ensure all accounting transactions are balanced accurately across multiple systems.
  • Process and manage carrier payments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain agency billing records and reconcile credits, debits, and payment discrepancies.
  • Oversee client trust account management and insurance premium accounting functions.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports and accounting summaries.
  • Maintain complete and organized audit trails for all accounting activities.

Accounting & Financial Management

Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare financial documentation required for quarterly and annual tax filings.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly tax payments accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate with external CPA partners for annual tax preparation and reporting.
  • Ensure accounting practices comply with US GAAP standards and internal financial controls.
  • Support long-term audit readiness and compliance initiatives.

Reconciliation & Audit Support

  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.
  • Perform surplus lines reconciliations and premium balancing with exceptional precision.
  • Ensure financial records remain audit-ready and properly documented.
  • Maintain accuracy when handling high-volume and sensitive financial data.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Accountant within insurance brokerage, surplus lines, or financial services environments.
  • Strong expertise in QuickBooks and US GAAP accounting standards.
  • Extensive experience with auditing, reconciliations, and insurance-related accounting processes.
  • Background in commercial insurance accounting and premium trust accounting preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial records with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify discrepancies independently.
  • Experience preparing quarterly taxes and supporting annual tax preparation processes.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and financial accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with commercial surplus lines insurance accounting.
  • Familiarity with agency billing and carrier payment processes.
  • Previous experience auditing bookkeeping functions.
  • Experience working within secure remote desktop or logged-session environments.

Technical Requirements

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and modern accounting software.
  • Comfortable working within secure remote technology environments.
  • Reliable internet connection and dedicated remote workspace.
  • Ability to integrate with CRM and accounting systems.

  • Occasional overlap may be required for internal meetings and reporting updates.
