Medical Insurance Verification Specialist

Job Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Insurance Verification Specialist to take responsibility for ensuring accurate and up-to-date insurance information across their operations. In this role, you will coordinate directly with insurance providers, internal staff, and patients to streamline the coverage verification process. The ideal candidate will combine clinical insight from an urgent care setting with professional remote communication skills to resolve billing discrepancies and manage authorizations efficiently.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance coverage for new and existing patients and ensure all information is current
  • Communicate with insurance companies, internal staff, and occasionally patients to answer insurance-related questions
  • Identify and resolve insurance discrepancies, denials, and billing-related issues
  • Update patient records, including demographics, verification, and authorization details
  • Explain financial responsibilities to staff and/or patients as needed
  • Notify staff of insurance denials, authorization issues, or coverage limitations
  • Track physician referrals and provide detailed updates to staff
  • Support medical billing teams by collaborating closely on verification and claims-related matters

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in urgent care clinics
  • Clinical experience with new patient consultations, established patient visits, wound care, and other in-clinic procedures
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills with excellent phone communication
  • Medical Virtual Assistant experience is required
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality
