Responsibilities

  • Estimating & Tender Preparation: Review and interpret tender documentation, architectural drawings, specifications, and scopes of work; perform detailed quantity take-offs from plans, calculate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and identify project risks, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Landscaping Project Estimation: Estimate comprehensive costs for softscape and hardscape works, including planting and irrigation systems, turf installation, paving, retaining walls, decking, fencing, concrete works, drainage, outdoor structures, and earthworks.
  • Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate competitive quotes from material suppliers and subcontractors; analyze pricing proposals, recommend optimized options, and maintain clean vendor databases.
  • Cost Analysis & Reporting: Prepare highly detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), develop structural cost breakdowns, track estimate revisions, and support post-tender project handovers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with project managers and operations teams to clarify project constraints, participate in tender review meetings, and assist with project variations and change orders when required.
  • Quoting Software Administration: Utilize the company’s proprietary quoting software to input project data, manage estimate histories, and continuously adapt to internal workflows and digital transformation initiatives.

Requirements

  • Industry Tenure: Proven professional experience as a Construction Estimator, with a heavy preference for a background in landscape construction, civil works, or external trades.
  • Market Literacy: Demonstrated experience estimating construction projects explicitly for the Australian market, with a strong understanding of Australian terminology, methods, and measurement standards.
  • Plan Interpretation: Mastery in reading, interpreting, and scaling construction drawings, structural plans, and technical specifications.
  • Quantitative Competency: Exceptional numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of preparing comprehensive quantity take-offs and cost summaries.
  • Software Literacy: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite, paired with an active enthusiasm for learning proprietary software platforms.
  • Linguistic Standard: Strong written and verbal English communication skills tailored for precise documentation and regular stakeholder interaction.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience using professional estimating software such as Buildxact, CostX, Bluebeam, Groundplan, Cubit, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
  • Practical knowledge of Australian landscaping regulations, local building codes, and compliance frameworks.
  • Pre-existing familiarity or working relationships with Australian suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Structural understanding of project scheduling, lead times, and construction sequencing.
  • Relevant formal qualifications in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Landscape Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
