AI Systems Technician

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Systems Engineer to join our growing team. This role is focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving Microsoft-based server, cloud, and network infrastructure across multiple client environments. The successful candidate will support Windows Server environments, Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, DFS, Hyper-V, security analysis, and complex infrastructure troubleshooting for an MSP serving multiple locations and networks. This position is ideal for a well-rounded server and infrastructure professional who is comfortable using modern AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot and Claude Desktop, to assist with documentation, troubleshooting, automation, project planning, and continuous improvement. The role is not focused on building AI models, but on applying AI effectively as part of day-to-day engineering and project work.

Responsibilities

Server Infrastructure & Systems Engineering

  • Provide Tier 3 support for Microsoft server, cloud, and network infrastructure across multiple client environments.
  • Administer, troubleshoot, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025.
  • Support core Microsoft infrastructure services, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, file services, print services, and Remote Desktop Services.
  • Design, support, and troubleshoot Hyper-V virtualization environments, virtual machines, storage, networking, checkpoints, and performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex server, network, authentication, replication, performance, backup, and security-related incidents.
  • Support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and hybrid identity environments as part of broader client infrastructure operations.
  • Monitor system health, identify risks, and recommend improvements to stability, security, performance, and manageability.
  • Document technical procedures, configurations, standards, escalation notes, and troubleshooting steps for internal and client-facing use.

AI & Automation Support

  • Use AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude Desktop, and other approved platforms to improve documentation, troubleshooting, research, scripting support, and project delivery.
  • Apply AI-assisted workflows to help accelerate root cause analysis, technical planning, knowledge base creation, and operational process improvement.
  • Support AI-driven automations and integrations where they improve service delivery, client support, or internal efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify practical opportunities for AI, automation, and repeatable engineering workflows.
  • Assist with prompt creation, testing, and refinement for technical use cases, including documentation, ticket analysis, project planning, and troubleshooting support.
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools and recommend practical applications that align with MSP operations and client support needs.
  • Maintain responsible use of AI tools with attention to privacy, client data handling, accuracy, and security best practices.

Process Improvement

  • Identify recurring infrastructure issues and recommend technology-driven improvements, standards, or automation opportunities.
  • Create documentation, SOPs, implementation notes, and knowledge base articles for internal teams and client environments.
  • Support onboarding, standardization, modernization, and security hardening of client server and cloud environments.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects, migrations, system upgrades, security improvements, and client technology initiatives.

Requirements

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, server engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Strong Tier 3 troubleshooting experience with Microsoft server, network, cloud, and identity environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and/or 2025.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, file services, print services, and Remote Desktop Services.
  • Experience supporting Hyper-V virtualization, virtual machine lifecycle management, storage, networking, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and hybrid Microsoft environments.
  • Practical Azure experience, including Azure administration, infrastructure troubleshooting, identity, networking, backup, security analysis, and security remediation.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting multiple client environments, locations, networks, or business units, preferably in an MSP environment.
  • Required experience using AI productivity and research tools, including Microsoft Copilot and Claude Desktop, with openness to adopting additional approved AI tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of escalated technical issues.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a commitment to client service quality.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a Managed Service Provider environment supporting multiple clients, standards, and technical stacks.
  • Experience with Azure Arc, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure networking, conditional access, Defender, Sentinel, or related Microsoft security tools.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, RMM tools, PSA systems, endpoint management, and documentation platforms.
  • Experience with workflow automation tools such as Power Automate, scripting, APIs, or business software integrations.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery planning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with security incident investigation, log review, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and client-facing security recommendations.
  • Relevant Microsoft, Azure, security, networking, or virtualization certifications are a plus.
