Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-sufficient Bookkeeper to handle financial cleanups, categorization, and day-to-day bookkeeping tasks for multiple clients. Our client is a growing sole proprietorship accounting and bookkeeping firm that launched in September and has rapidly expanded its client base across various service-based industries. The firm specializes in financial cleanups, controller-level analysis, and CFO advisory services for small to medium-sized businesses including construction, custom fabrication, insurance, and other service sectors.
Schedule:
- Mondays to Fridays, 1:00 to 6:00 pm (US Pacific Time, 20 hours per week)
- With potential to scale to full time within 2-3 months
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive bookkeeping cleanups for new clients within estimated timelines established during initial financial assessments.
- Categorize transactions accurately across multiple client accounts using proper chart of accounts and accounting principles.
- Structure books efficiently for seamless handoff to CPAs during tax season, ensuring proper organization from the outset.
- Adapt bookkeeping approaches based on different service-based industry requirements including construction, fabrication, insurance, and other sectors.
- Immediately flag and communicate any client-caused discrepancies or unauthorized changes to books for prompt resolution and billing adjustments.
- Complete all menial and time-consuming bookkeeping tasks to free up principal for reconciliations and controller-level work.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience working in QuickBooks Online with familiarity navigating the current user interface.
- Strong foundational knowledge of basic accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, and chart of accounts structure.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a common-sense approach to problem-solving and the ability to identify when to ask questions rather than making assumptions.
- Self-sufficient work style requiring minimal oversight while maintaining consistent communication on issues or uncertainties.
- QuickBooks Online certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Familiarity with tax strategy and how bookkeeping setup impacts tax preparation efficiency.
- Prior experience working with service-based businesses across multiple industries such as construction, custom fabrication, or insurance.
- Previous experience working for accounting firms or bookkeeping service providers.
