Job Overview
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the development of mechanical castings, enclosures, and housing structures for automated gate motor systems. In this role, you will design complex gear structures, simulate drivetrain performance, and integrate mechanical assemblies with electronic layouts. This position is ideal for an analytical engineer who excels at transitioning concepts into production-ready technical drawings and thrives in an independent, remote research and development environment.

Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM AEST (40 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical castings, enclosures, and housing structures for gate motor systems using AutoCAD.
- Develop gear structures and simulate gear meshing to determine output torque and performance characteristics.
- Design robust motor mounting positions and clamping systems to secure DC motors within mechanical assemblies.
- Integrate PCB layouts and battery compartments into structural housing designs using provided DXF files.
- Iterate on prototype designs by identifying structural weaknesses and implementing redesigns to ensure load-bearing integrity.
- Support the transition from prototype to production-ready mechanical assemblies suitable for mass production.
- Support additional mechanical, drivetrain, and plastics design projects as capacity allows.
Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, particularly with gearboxes, DC motors, and drivetrain systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for detailed mechanical drafting, technical drawing, and component design.
- Strong understanding of load analysis, structural integrity, and material selection for mechanical enclosures.
- Ability to translate verbal design concepts into accurate, production-ready technical schematics.
