Bookkeeper (Sage 200 experience)

Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and highly motivated Bookkeeper to take full ownership of our financial records and maintain the company’s financial integrity. In this role, you will manage day-to-day accounting functions, oversee full-cycle bookkeeping on Sage 200, and deliver accurate, real-time financial data directly to the Managing Director. Schedule:

  • Mon-Thurs 7 am-4 pm, Fri 7 am-2 pm (1 hr unpaid break)

Responsibilities

  • Full Cycle Bookkeeping: Manage all daily financial transactions, ensuring accurate coding and posting to Sage 200
  • Month-End Procedures: Perform month-end closing processes, including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation journals.
  • Management Accounts: Prepare and present monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and Budget Variance reports for the Managing Director.
  • Audit Liaison: Work closely with external accountants to ensure year-end accounts are verified and compliant.
  • VAT & Compliance: Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns and ensure the business remains compliant with current tax legislation.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform daily reconciliations of all bank accounts including foreign currency
  • Cash Flow Forecasting: Maintain and update a rolling cash flow forecast to assist with forward planning.
  • Payment Processing: Manage the Purchase Ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are authorized and paid within agreed terms.
  • Ledger Maintenance: Oversee the Sales Ledger, ensuring receipts are allocated daily.
  • Credit Assessment: Evaluate credit applications for new customers using credit rating agencies.
  • Account Queries: Act as the primary point of contact for complex billing disputes or account reconciliations.
  • Proactive Collection: Maintain professional relationships with clients to ensure timely payments and minimize aged debt.

Requirements

  • Software: Must have Advanced proficiency in Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables); Proficiency in Sage 200 is highly preferred
  • Qualifications: AAT Level 3 or 4 (or qualified by significant experience).
  • Technical Ability: Deep understanding of Double Entry Bookkeeping and Trial Balances.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in a similar full-charge bookkeeping role
  • Communication: Professional, articulate, and capable of explaining financial data to non-finance staff.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to data entry and complex account reconciliations
