Senior Structural Steel Estimator & Drafting Specialist (AU Construction)

Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Steel Estimator & Drafting Specialist (AU Construction) to join our team in a remote capacity. This role is ideal for a senior-level professional with extensive experience in structural steel estimation, material takeoffs, and drafting who can work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates, completing material takeoffs (MTOs), and producing technical documentation for structural steel and modular construction projects. We are looking for someone with strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of Australian construction practices.

Schedule Monday - Friday, AEST/AEDT | Flexible during business hours | 20 work hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed material takeoffs (MTOs) for structural steel projects with a high level of accuracy
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and tender submissions for structural steel and modular construction projects
  • Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to determine project requirements
  • Produce and revise technical drawings and construction documentation as required
  • Utilize estimating and drafting software such as Groundplan and Bluebeam
  • Identify project risks, cost-saving opportunities, and estimation discrepancies
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify project scope and specifications
  • Ensure all estimates and documentation comply with Australian construction standards and industry best practices
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, takeoffs, drawings, and project documentation
  • Support project planning and pre-construction activities as required

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of senior-level experience in structural steel estimating and drafting
  • Proven expertise in material takeoff (MTO) and cost estimation for structural steel projects
  • Previous experience working with Australian construction companies
  • Strong understanding of structural steel construction methods, fabrication, and installation processes
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Groundplan, or similar estimating and drafting software
  • Ability to interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings accurately
  • Experience preparing detailed estimates and tender documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Portfolio submission is required to demonstrate capabilities and experience 

Nice to Have Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Australian building codes, standards, and regulations
  • Experience within modular construction projects
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication workflows and shop drawing processes
  • Experience working remotely with distributed project teams
