About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Residential Construction Estimator (Insurance & Restoration) to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a construction professional with a strong background in residential estimating who can accurately prepare cost estimates, quotations, and scopes of work while providing technical guidance to junior team members.
Working closely with the Pre-Construction, Project Management, and Senior Leadership teams, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are accurately costed, commercially viable, and aligned with company standards. In addition to producing high-quality estimates, you will support continuous improvement by mentoring junior estimators and contributing to process consistency across the estimating team.

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Planning
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations, and detailed Scopes of Work for residential building and restoration projects.
- Interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings, site photographs, reports, and other project documentation to develop comprehensive costings.
- Assess labour, materials, subcontractor pricing, trade requirements, inclusions, exclusions, and contingencies to produce competitive and accurate estimates.
- Support the preparation and submission of tenders for residential, insurance, and small commercial projects.
- Participate in major loss estimating and quoting (training provided where required).
Project & Commercial Support
- Prepare quotations, job costings, and contract documentation.
- Assist with scope reviews and obtain competitive supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Maintain accurate project records, estimating documentation, and pricing databases.
- Provide administrative support throughout the pre-construction process to ensure smooth project delivery.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with the Pre-Construction, Project Management, and Senior Leadership teams to refine project scopes and maintain budget accuracy.
- Mentor and support junior estimators by reviewing estimates, providing coaching, and sharing industry best practices.
- Promote consistency, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across the estimating function.
- Provide technical guidance on company estimating procedures, methodologies, and standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Residential Construction Estimator.
- Residential estimating experience is mandatory; candidates without residential estimating experience will not be considered.
- Demonstrated experience preparing detailed cost estimates and Scopes of Work for residential building projects.
- Strong ability to interpret residential architectural plans, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent knowledge of Australian building codes, residential construction methods, and industry pricing.
- Experience using estimating software and/or project management systems.
- Strong commercial awareness, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience in insurance repairs, restoration, or major loss estimating.
- Experience mentoring or leading junior estimators.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel.
