Job Overview

Our client is looking for an entry-level to junior-level CAD & GIS Technician to support engineering and construction operations. This role performs foundational CAD and GIS mapping duties while assisting with the ongoing management and maintenance of the company’s 3GIS system and 811 database. This position is designed for an individual with a basic understanding of CAD, GIS, or related disciplines who is looking to grow their skills in a supportive environment. Prior experience within telecommunications, utilities, or 3GIS is preferred but not required; candidates with experience using alternative GIS platforms or relevant coursework will be fully considered.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Central Time, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Perform routine CAD drafting and GIS-related tasks under the direction of the Director of Construction Services.
• Assist in updating, maintaining, and organizing data within the company’s 3GIS platform.
• Input, track, and maintain accurate information within the company’s 811 ticket and utility tracking database.
• Organize and maintain clean, reliable CAD, GIS, and 811 project records and files.
• Support engineering and construction teams with technical documentation and spatial data preparation.
• Perform other related technical and administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of or exposure to CAD software and/or GIS concepts.
• Familiarity with 3GIS is preferred; experience with other GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) is acceptable.
• Strong computer literacy and the aptitude to quickly learn new software, workflows, and technical databases.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical degree, vocational coursework, or certification in CAD, GIS, drafting, or a related field is strongly preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience in CAD, GIS, telecommunications, utilities, or a technical office environment is preferred.
• Specialized Knowledge: Direct 3GIS experience is a plus. Candidates with limited professional experience who possess strong relevant technical training, coursework, or certifications are encouraged to apply.
