Job Overview
Our client is seeking an AutoCAD Draftsperson to serve as the technical backbone for a boutique interior design practice, translating creative concepts into precise construction-ready drawings. Working directly with the principal designer, you will draft joinery and millwork details, create lighting layouts, develop furniture floor plans, and prepare detailed cabinetry drawings for builders and manufacturers. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to contribute design thinking while managing the drafting cycle for mid to high-end residential interiors.
Client Overview
Our client is an established interior design firm based in Melbourne, specializing in mid to high-end residential projects, including apartments. The principal has extensive experience leading design departments and managing complex joinery and cabinetry projects for discerning clients across Australia.
Schedule:
-
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM AEST, with 1 hour unpaid break (24 work hours per week)
Responsibilities:
- Prepare lighting layouts, furniture floor plans, base plans, and interior residential sections.
- Draft detailed joinery and millwork drawings in AutoCAD based on marked-up files and client specifications.
- Produce construction-ready cabinetry drawings that demonstrate a strong understanding of buildability, fabrication methods, materials, typical thicknesses, and joinery methods (including stone benchtops, tiling, plaster, and timber framing).
- Assist with product scheduling and data entry for fittings, fixtures, equipment, lighting, and material specifications as needed.
- Convert AutoCAD files to SketchUp and leverage AI-assisted image generation tools for interior visualization (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude).
- Implement revision feedback efficiently, review and iterate on shared CAD files, and maintain accuracy across all drawing iterations.
- Maintain file organization and version control across shared CAD documents.
- Think critically about cabinetry design and suggest improvements rather than simply executing instructions.
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2026 or equivalent) and SketchUp.
- Practical knowledge of cabinetry construction and fabrication methods, including joinery details and associated residential materials.
- Solid interior design background with an eye for detail and creative problem-solving.
- Demonstrable portfolio showing residential interior design drafting work.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted image generation tools for interior visualization.
- Ability to work independently, manage tasks with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines consistently.
- Strong written communication skills for clear mark-up responses, project coordination, and remote collaboration.
- Ability to self-directed link and learn additional proprietary software platforms as needed.
