Job Overview

Our client is seeking an autonomous, detail-focused Tekla Structural Steel Detailer to take direct ownership of workshop fabrication drawings for commercial structural steel and architectural metalwork packages.

In this role, you will work directly inside Tekla Structures, extracting fabrication-ready assembly and single-part workshop drawings directly from coordinated 3D models. You will take ownership of complete job packages—frequently lasting several months—working without interruption while collaborating closely with an Australia-based senior draftsman who handles primary site coordination and day-to-day client variations. This position is ideal for a disciplined detailer who values deep focus, high precision, and seeing their modeling work built into high-profile Australian developments.

The company specializes in the end-to-end design, fabrication, and installation of structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and intricate architectural metalwork—including custom facades and statement feature installations for premier luxury hotels and commercial landmark accommodation projects across Australia. Combining an experienced onshore team with high-performing offshore drafting talent, they maintain an agile workflow that keeps multi-million-dollar fabrication lines running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Workshop Detailing & Drawing Production

• Generate comprehensive, error-free workshop fabrication drawings, assembly sheets, and single-part drawings for structural steel and architectural metalwork using Tekla Structures.
• Produce precise shop drawings covering a diverse range of materials, including heavy structural steel, architectural stainless steel, aluminum systems, and custom facade metalwork.
• Maintain strict model fidelity, ensuring every 2D shop drawing remains fully synchronized with the master 3D Tekla model.

2. Package Ownership & Model Quality Control

• Take end-to-end ownership of entire job packages across multi-month project lifecycles, maintaining drafting consistency and revision tracking throughout.
• Conduct thorough 3D model reviews and clash checks, identifying connection anomalies, missing dimensions, or design inconsistencies early before material fabrication.
• Review design changes and client markups, executing model modifications and drawing updates quickly and accurately.

3. Team Collaboration & Delivery

• Coordinate continuously with the Australia-based lead draftsman to communicate drawing queries, resolve site variations, and align on upcoming milestone deliverables.
• Deliver completed workshop drawing packages reliably against project schedules to prevent fabrication shop downtime.
• Generate NC files, DXF files, material take-offs, and bill of materials (BOMs) as required for automated cutting and assembly lines.

Technical Stack & Tools

• 3D Modeling & Detailing: Tekla Structures (Advanced proficiency required)
• General CAD & Viewing: AutoCAD, Trimble Connect, Navisworks, or Bluebeam Revu
• Productivity & Communication: Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, or Microsoft Teams

Key Requirements & Qualifications

• Tekla Mastery: Proven, hands-on experience as a structural steel and metalwork draftsman utilizing Tekla Structures for workshop drawing generation.
• Fabrication Drawing Knowledge: Solid understanding of workshop detailing standards, welding symbols, standard connections, assembly hierarchies, and fabrication constraints.
• 3D Model Interpretation: Proven ability to navigate complex 3D BIM models, identify potential buildability issues, and formulate clear, precise RFIs.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills suited for remote coordination with Australian engineers and drafting leads.
• Home Office Infrastructure: Dedicated remote workstation equipped with high-performance hardware capable of handling complex 3D Tekla models, dual displays, and a reliable high-speed internet connection with backup power.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience detailing structural steel or metalwork for Australian building codes (AS 4100 / AS/NZS standards).
• Specialized detailing experience in architectural stainless steel, balustrades, screens, stairs, and luxury facade elements.
• Proficiency in auxiliary drafting and detailing software (e.g., AutoCAD, Advance Steel).
