Our client is a US-based metal and glass fabrication shop located in Long Island, New York. They specialize in architectural metal fabrication, producing complex structural elements for commercial construction projects. The company works directly with architects, designers, and general contractors on custom metal and glass installations.

Job Description

You will take architectural drawings from concept to fabrication-ready shop drawings for a specialized metal and glass fabrication shop. Working directly with experienced project managers, you'll draft complete submittals from scratch, navigate the architect approval process, and ultimately create the detailed fabrication drawings that guide the shop floor. This role requires someone who truly understands how metal is built, not just how to draw it. You'll be the bridge between design intent and constructability, ensuring every detail can actually be fabricated before it reaches the shop.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (1 hour lunch break); 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Draft complete shop drawing submittals from scratch based on architectural drawings and project manager direction
• Collaborate with US-based project managers to understand scope, materials, and fabrication approach for each project
• Produce detailed drawings that specify metal panel systems, structural members, gauges, angle carriers, and connection details
• Revise and resubmit drawings based on architect and designer feedback during the approval process
• Create fabrication drawings with the granular detail required by shop fabricators after field measurements
• Ensure all drawings reflect constructability and can actually be built by the fabrication team
• Work with dimensions, connections, welds, anchors, and glass specifications throughout the drawing process
• Alleviate project managers from drafting workload so they can focus on project management and coordination

Must-Have Requirements

• Strong working knowledge of architectural metal fabrication and how metal construction actually works
• Proven experience with metal panel systems, structural steel members, gauges, and connection details
• Proficiency in AutoCAD software for architectural and fabrication drawing production
• Ability to draft shop drawings from scratch, not just markup existing drawings
• Understanding of constructability - knowing what can and cannot be built in a metal fabrication shop
• Experience reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and detail drawings
• Strong grasp of dimensions, connections, welds, anchors, and glass specifications
• Ability to collaborate remotely with project managers and understand detailed technical direction

Nice-to-Have Requirements

• Bonus if you have previous experience working with US-based fabrication shops or construction teams
• It helps if you've worked through the full submittal and approval process with architects and general contractors
• Bonus if you have experience with field measurement coordination and translating those into revised fabrication drawings
